114 meters of pure luxury: this is Lürssen’s new giant

The German shipyard Lürssen has just unveiled the COSMOS, a luxury superyacht that adds a new dimension to the standards of maritime design and exploration we’ve known until now. At 114.2 meters in length, this imposing vessel is not only one of the largest launched this year, but is also a true masterpiece of engineering and style, created by renowned designer Marc Newson.

A true milestone in Lürssen’s 150th anniversary

The launch of the COSMOS coincides with a historic moment for Lürssen.
This is a very special project coinciding with our 150th anniversary,” said Peter Lürssen, CEO of the shipyard. “Although no two yachts in our production are alike, some leave an indelible mark on our history; COSMOS is undoubtedly one of them.”

Commissioned by a visionary owner with the goal of creating a unique luxury explorer yacht, COSMOS combines futuristic elegance, technological innovation, and long-range expedition capabilities.

Both the exterior and interior bear the signature of Marc Newson, who imprinted his unmistakable sculptural and minimalist style.
Working with a creatively ambitious client allowed us to push the boundaries of superyacht design,” explained Newson. “From the exterior silhouette to the smallest interior detail, everything was conceived as a coherent whole without creative restrictions.”

The result is a yacht with fluid lines, impeccable finishes, and a cutting-edge aesthetic, positioning it as one of the most distinctive nautical designs of the last decade.

Innovations such as the use of structural glass

One of COSMOS’s hallmarks is its pioneering use of structural glass. The owner’s private study, crowned by a glass dome, offers 360-degree panoramic views thanks to an innovative technique developed by Lürssen to bend large sections of thick, distortion-free glass.

In addition, the cabin deck features a continuous strip of glass that encircles the entire upper level, providing uninterrupted views of the sea. Other notable spaces include:

  • Glass-enclosed observation lounge under the helipad.
  • Open balcony with glass railing aft.
  • Private glass terrace connected to the owner’s study.

The spacious aft deck combines comfort and functionality with features such as:

  • Central pool and jacuzzi.
  • Wraparound seating areas.
  • Dry dock with sled system for launching and recovering the main tender.

Born to explore sustainably

Designed for long-range cruising, the COSMOS features six decks and is reinforced to Ice Class 1D, allowing it to navigate safely in polar regions and light ice environments, opening up the possibility of exploring all five oceans and seven continents.

Thanks to its commitment to innovation and sustainability, the shipowner has integrated an experimental methanol fuel cell. This system transforms methanol into hydrogen, which is then converted into electricity, reducing the vessel’s carbon footprint.
